Watched “Independence Day” last night. This reminded my wife and I of the discussions we had in the 90’s about whether or not the President in the film was a Democrat or a Republican. At the time, my wife was working with Dee Dee Myers, Bill Clinton’s former press secretary, and Dee Dee insisted that the President was a Democrat & modeled on Clinton. As he was young and “idealistic.” My wife pointed out that he was a former fighter pilot, which made her certain that he was a Republican. “But my dad was a military pilot!” Dee Dee said. “Your dad’s a Republican,” my wife said. “How did you know that?” Dee Dee responded.
Anyway, they don’t really outline his policy towards social programs in the film, so it’s hard to say. And, in the end, kind of a dumb argument. Then again, most political arguments are…
